Science Olympiad is a national science competition that has inspired students to deepen their understanding of science for the past 32 years.
At the state level, Pennsylvania Science Olympiad is a wonderful STEM tournament involving more than 100 middle schools and nearly 200 high schools from across Pennsylvania.
A team of up to fifteen students prepares ahead of time to compete in 23 events at a regional tournament. In an effort to encourage schools that have not participated because of financial limitations, we would like to share two programs that may help lower that financial barrier.
Urban Initiative Grant
PA Science Olympiad is in its third year of launching the Urban Initiative in Philadelphia.
Schools in Philadelphia County that have not recently participated in Science Olympiad and want more information about how the Urban Initiative could be a gateway into Science Olympiad should contact Scott Leggett at PASciOlyUrban@cabrini.edu.
Financial Equity Grant
PA Science Olympiad is also offering a number of grants to schools in economically challenged areas around the state to help with registration fees, event supplies and competition transportation.
Schools with a large percentage of students qualifying for the federal lunch program that are interested in Science Olympiad should apply following the guidelines in the Financial Equity Grant application.
